Huge 18-Wheeler Truck Tips Over Texas Freeway in Shocking Photos

Two 18-wheeler trucks were involved in a collision on an interstate in San Antonio, Texas, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Photos of the collision, on the I-10 on the upper level of North Frio, showed the shocking scenes. The crash resulted in one of the 18-wheeler cabs hanging off the interstate with the other truck cab turned on itself at an awkward angle.

Monday afternoon's collision caused a big buildup of traffic, prompting the San Antonio Police Department to warn motorists to take alternative routes.

"Traffic alert. Officers are working a major accident involving two semi trucks at IH 10 W WB/N Frio at the split for upper and lower level," the San Antonio Police Department wrote on Twitter on Monday.

"This area will remain closed for the next few hours, so please avoid and take alternate routes."

Police have said the crash occurred when one of the 18-wheeler drivers lost control due to slippery conditions following heavy rain, according to a MySA report.

The truck then slid into another 18-wheeler causing the other driver to lose control and strike the concrete wall.

This resulted in the truck cab hanging off the interstate while the tractor trailer remained on the road with some of its wheels in the air.

The San Antonio Fire Department was also called to the scene to clean up spilled diesel fuel.

There have been no reports of fatalities or injuries and the investigation is ongoing.

Newsweek has contacted the San Antonio Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation for comment.

Earlier this month, the weather played a role in another crash when a semi-truck was flipped over in north Texas by powerful gales.

A semi-truck parked at Love's Travel Stop in Midlothian, Texas, was blown on its side by the winds, according to an NBC 5 report. Emergency services were able to free the driver, who wasn't believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

Video footage of the overturned 18-wheeler was shared on social media as well as videos of other cars that were flipped over.

On that day, some vehicles were overturned on a highway in Lewisville, Texas, due to the severe weather. Heavy rain reduced visibility on roads, while multiple areas in Texas were put on the National Weather Service's (NWS) tornado watch due to the extreme weather.
