Twisted woman, 42, murdered her 37-year-old love rival then spent YEARS posing as her on social medi

A WARPED female killer murdered her love rival and then posed as her online to try to cover up her crime.

Shanna Golyar, 42, was yesterday sentenced to life in prison over the 2012 disappearance of Cari Farver.

Golyar attacked and murdered the 37-year-old mum-of-one after seeing her leave the flat of a man she was dating.

She then spent years assuming her victim's identity on social media and via emails to try to throw investigators off her trail.

Prosecutors said fantasist Golyar has a history of posing as rival women and inventing stories to discredit them.

And she also set fire to her own home in another attempt to cover her tracks.

"What some people are capable of has always astounded and mystified this court", Judge Timothy Burns said during sentencing yesterday, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

Golyar was handed her life sentence three months after being found guilty of first degree murder in Omaha, Nebraska.

Her 10-day trial in May heard how after murdering Ms Farver on 13 November 2012 she used her victim's phone to assume her identity.

In a cruel Facebook post in May 2013, Goylar posed as Ms Faver to say the reason why her son Max could not see his mum was because he refused to run away with her.

"I asked my son Max... to come with me, but you didn't want to," it read.

She also sent a message Ms Farver's mum Nancy Raney on Mother's Day 2014, leading the family to still hold hope that she was alive.

Despite never finding a body, investigators were able to piece together circumstantial evidence including fingerprints on a packet of chewing gum found in the victim's car.

A photo also emerged which Goylar took that police said is Ms Farver's decomposing foot.

The trial also heard how Goylar called police in 2015 claiming a woman had shot her in the leg — but an investigation concluded that she had in fact shot herself.

And in June last year Goylar pleaded guilty to smashing the window of another woman's apartment.

Prosecutor Brenda Beadle called the murder case one of the "most calculated and bizarre" she has ever worked on.

"Cari Farver did not voluntarily disappear and drop off the face of the earth", she said in May. "Very sadly she was murdered".

Goylar was given 18-20 years for arson in relation to her setting fire to her house to run consecutively with the life sentence.

Nancy Raney, Ms Farley's mum, told WOWT: "It's been almost five years since Cari left us. This is what we had to have."
